Partners in Health
Partners In Health (PIH) is an American international nonprofit public health organization based in Boston, Massachusetts.
History
Ophelia Dahl and Paul Farmer met in 1983 while volunteering in Haiti. There, they co-founded Zanmi Lasante ("Partners in Health" in Haitian Creole) alongside Todd McCormack, Jim Yong Kim, and Thomas J. White. The group subsequently founded the Boston-based Partners in Health in 1987.[1]
COVID-19
In April 2020, PIH launched the Massachusetts COVID-19 Community Tracing Collaborative, America's first statewide contact tracing program, in partnership with the Government of Massachusetts and local boards of health. PIH also established its U.S. Public Health Accompaniment Unit to provide technical advice on contact tracing to other states and municipalities.[2]
In the spring of 2020, PIH published guides for managing COVID-19 patients in resource-limited settings. In December 2020, PIH partnered with COVIDProtocols and the UCSF Institute for Global Health Sciences to combine the best content from Open Critical Care (funded by the United States Agency for International Development's Sustaining Technical and Analytic Resources project) and PIH's guidelines to create "COVIDProtocols.org v2.0."[3]
