Doris Duke Charitable Foundation

The Doris Duke Charitable Foundation (DDCF), also known as simply the Doris Duke Foundation (DDF), is an American philanthropic organization based in New York.
History
The DDCF was established in 1996 by Doris Duke's will and endowed by her assets, which totalled approximately $2.6 billion as of December 31, 2021. Governed by a board of trustees, DDCF continues to be entirely funded through this endowment. The foundation regularly evaluates and modifies its allocation of resources from the endowment to support its grantmaking programs, museums and centers.
The foundation awarded its first grants in 1997. As of December 31, 2021, DDCF has approved grants toltaling approximately $1.95 billion.[1]
Organization
DDCF's board of trustees includes figures notable during the declared COVID-19 pandemic, such as Afsaneh Beschloss and Anthony Fauci.[2] Fauci has been a trustee since at least 2004,[3] and has also served as vice-chair (for at least the year 2009).[4]

Grants
In 2002, the foundation awarded grants totalling $1.8 million to help build the new Doris Duke Medical Research Institute (DDMRI) at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. The DDCF also awarded a $2.25 million grant to provide four years of support for the HIV Pathogenesis Program led by Dr. Bruce Walker of Harvard University and Drs. Philip Goulder and Hoosen Coovadia at the DDMRI.[5]
