American Academy of Pediatrics

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) is an American professional association based in Itasca, Illinois, with an additional office in Washington, D.C.
History
The AAP created the Center for Child Health Research in September 1999.[1]
AAP was an invited participant in the Crimson Contagion functional exercise, a national pandemic preparedness simulation which took place August 13-16, 2019 hosted by the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response (ASPR).[2]
COVID-19
In the first quarter of 2021, the AAP received a $200,000 grant from Pfizer for a project titled “Building a System of Care to Improve Patient Compliance and Provider Connections in the Medical Home”.[3]
On July 7, 2025, the AAP filed a lawsuit as lead plaintiff against Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Marty Makary, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Jay Bhattacharya, the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Matthew Buzzelli and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), over Kennedy's decision to remove COVID-19 vaccines from the list of recommended vaccines for healthy children and pregnant women.[4]
On July 28, 2025, the AAP published a revised policy statement calling for an end to religious exemptions to vaccine mandates in the United States.[5][6]
