# Viamet Pharmaceuticals

**Viamet Pharmaceuticals** was an American pharmaceutical company based in the Research Triangle of North Carolina. The company discovered and developed “small-molecule inhibitors of validated metalloenzymes via an innovative and proprietary metal-binding approach” called “Metallophile™ Technology.”[\[1\]](#fn1)

## History

Viamet was founded in 2005 by Thomas O'Halloran and Holden Thorp.[\[2\]](#fn2)[\[3\]](#fn3)

On June 3, 2015, Viamet announced it had been awarded a $1.95 million grant from the [United States Department of Defense](https://www.whiteroseintelligence.com/United-States-Department-of-Defense) to develop “a novel topical antifungal agent to prevent and treat mold infections as a result of battlefield wounds.”[\[4\]](#fn4)

On January 3, 2018, Viamet announced it had been acquired by NovaQuest Capital Management.[\[5\]](#fn5) Its operations continued under a newly-founded NovaQuest portfolio company called Mycovia Pharmaceuticals.[\[6\]](#fn6)
