# Triple Canopy

**Triple Canopy** was an American private military company based in Herndon, Virginia, with offices in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates and Nigeria.[\[1\]](#fn1)

## History

Triple Canopy was founded in Chicago, Illinois in September 2003 by Thomas Katis and Matthew Mann.[\[2\]](#fn2) In 2005, the company's corporate headquarters was relocated to Herndon, Virginia, just outside of Washington, D.C.[\[1:1\]](#fn1)

In June 2007, Triple Canopy acquired Clayton Consultants.[\[1:2\]](#fn1)

On April 1, 2009, [United States Department of State](https://www.whiteroseintelligence.com/United-States-Department-of-State) acting deputy spokesman Gordon Duguid announced that it had reassigned [Blackwater](https://www.whiteroseintelligence.com/Blackwater)'s contracts for security services in Iraq to Triple Canopy.[\[3\]](#fn3)

### Constellis merger

In early June 2014, Triple Canopy merged with Academi (formerly known as Blackwater) to create [Constellis Holdings](https://www.whiteroseintelligence.com/Constellis),[\[4\]](#fn4) which subsequently announced on June 6, 2014 that it would acquire Constellis Group and its holdings, creating a new combined conglomerate.[\[5\]](#fn5)
