# The Giving Pledge

**The Giving Pledge** is a philanthropic campaign to encourage wealthy people to contribute a majority of their wealth to philanthropic causes.

## History

[Bill Gates](https://www.whiteroseintelligence.com/Bill-Gates) and Warren Buffett launched The Giving Pledge campaign in June 2010.[\[1\]](#fn1)

Sam Bankman-Fried signed the pledge in June 2022.[\[2\]](#fn2) His name was removed from the list in December 2022 following his arrest.[\[3\]](#fn3)
