The **Progressive Policy Institute (PPI)** is an American political think tank based in Washington, D.C. It was formerly affiliated with the [Democratic Leadership Council](https://www.whiteroseintelligence.com/Democratic-Leadership-Council).

It is described as "the intellectual birthplace of the New Democrat and 'Third Way' movements," as well as "President Bill Clinton's 'idea mill.'"[\[1\]](#fn1) According to the National Endowment for Democracy, PPI "has been integral to the spread of 'Third Way' thinking to center-left parties in Europe and elsewhere."[\[2\]](#fn2)

## History

The PPI was founded in January 1989 by Will Marshall to act as the "intellectual center" of the Democratic Leadership Council (DLC).[\[1:1\]](#fn1)[\[3\]](#fn3)
