**Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA)** is an American trade association based in Washington, D.C. It has offices in Japan and the United Arab Emirates.[\[1\]](#fn1) It raises funds through the [PhRMA Foundation](https://www.whiteroseintelligence.com/PhRMA-Foundation).

## History

PhRMA was founded in 1958 “to represent America’s biopharmaceutical research companies and seek essential alignment between public policy and medical research to address patient needs.”[\[2\]](#fn2)[\[3\]](#fn3)
