**The New York Times Company** is an American news publisher based in Manhattan, New York. It is the owner and publisher of *[The New York Times](https://www.whiteroseintelligence.com/New-York-Times)*. The company has been controlled by the Sulzberger family since Adolph Ochs purchased it in 1896.[\[1\]](#fn1)

## History

Adolph Ochs purchased the *New York Times* in 1896 for $75,000 and formed the New York Times Company.[\[1:1\]](#fn1)[\[2\]](#fn2)

### COVID-19

In August 2022, [ValueAct Capital](https://www.whiteroseintelligence.com/ValueAct-Capital) acquired a 7% stake in the NYT Company.[\[3\]](#fn3)
