## History

[Pfizer](https://www.whiteroseintelligence.com/Pfizer) identified Moyamoya disease as an adverse event of special interest to the [Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine](https://www.whiteroseintelligence.com/Pfizer-BioNTech-COVID-19-vaccine) in their post-marketing surveillance report as of February 28, 2021.[\[1:1\]](#fn1)

On July 7, 2023, mixed martial artist Josiah Harrell was diagnosed with Moyamoya disease shortly before his scheduled debut in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).[\[2\]](#fn2)
