# Macdonald-Laurier Institute

The **Macdonald-Laurier Institute (MLI)** is a Canadian think tank based in Ottawa, Ontario. It is part of the [Atlas Network](https://www.whiteroseintelligence.com/Atlas-Network).[\[1\]](#fn1)[\[2\]](#fn2)

## History

On September 24, 2020, MLI launched [DisinfoWatch](https://www.whiteroseintelligence.com/DisinfoWatch), which it described as a "foreign disinformation monitoring and debunking platform." The site is particularly focused on "a toxic mix of conspiracies, hoaxes, blatant fabrications and propaganda" surrounding the declared COVID-19 pandemic.[\[3\]](#fn3) The project is led by MLI senior fellow Marcus Kolga, developed with funding from the [United States Department of State](https://www.whiteroseintelligence.com/United-States-Department-of-State)'s Global Engagement Center, the Embassy of the United States of America in Ottawa, and Journalists for Human Rights (JHR).[\[4\]](#fn4)
