Lexi Budzon
Alexis "Lexi" Taylor Budzon (January 27, 1997-December 1, 2021)[1] was an American nursing student based in Huntsville, Alabama.
History
Budzon attended the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS) before continuing her education at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, training to become a nurse.[1:1]
COVID-19
In the final months before graduating, Budzon faced pressure to receive a COVID-19 vaccine, which was required alongside an influenza vaccine for her hospital rotations. Despite her reservations over the new products, Budzon decided to take both shots. She received her first dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine in August 2021 and her second in mid-September 2021.[2]
Budzon experienced adverse events after both doses, starting with menorrhagia (heavy menstrual bleeding). After her second dose, she developed multiple symptoms including persistent fatigue, headache and chest pain after light exercise. Her condition worsened in November 2021, developing "urinary symptoms, gastrointestinal upset, a new rash on her arms and trunk, neck pain, and a low-grade fever." Returning home to Colorado, she went to the doctor on November 22, 2021, before being hospitalized on November 29 with vomiting and weakness. In hospital, she suffered a seizure, and was transported by helicopter to a tertiary care center.[2:1]
Budzon was declared brain dead on December 1, 2021, but remained on life support to preserve her organs for donation. Her autopsy listed her cause of death as "complications of an undiagnosed, asymptomatic Chiari malformation," while also noting intraparenchymal hemorrhage and hemorrhage of the upper spinal cord.[2:2]
Budzon's family, doctors and legal team believe the COVID-19 vaccine contributed to her health decline.[2:3] They submitted a report to the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS) on June 24, 2022.[3] Lexi's mother, Kimberly Budzon, filed a supplemental report on July 11, 2024, after the connection to the COVID-19 vaccine wasn't made ambiguous in the initial published report.[2:4]
Budzon's story was published by React19 at the wishes of her mother, Kim.[4] Children's Health Defense (CHD) published interviews with Kim on January 22 and July 9, 2025.[5][6]
