The **Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health** is an American academic institution based in Baltimore, Maryland. It is a graduate school of [Johns Hopkins University](https://www.whiteroseintelligence.com/Johns-Hopkins-University).

## History

In 1997, the [Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation](https://www.whiteroseintelligence.com/Bill-&-Melinda-Gates-Foundation) gave $2.25 million to the school to establish "a training and research program for family planning and reproductive health specialists from developing nations." This program was the basis for the creation of the Bill & Melinda Gates Institute for Population and Reproductive Health in 1999, for which the foundation provided an additional $20 million.[\[1\]](#fn1)
