# Infrastructure Canada

**Infrastructure Canada** is a department of the [Government of Canada](https://www.whiteroseintelligence.com/Government-of-Canada) responsible for federal public infrastructure policy.

## History

In 2017, Infrastructure Canada launched the Smart Cities Challenge "to empower communities across the country to address the issues their residents face, using new partnerships and a smart cities approach." The program provided funding for the Town of Bridgewater, Pinnguaq, the City of Guelph, County of Wellington and the City of Montreal.[\[1\]](#fn1)

### COVID-19

Infrastructure Canada launched the Canada Healthy Communities Initiative to provide $31 million in funding "to help communities adapt public spaces and local services in a way that meets people’s needs both during and following the COVID-19 pandemic."[\[1:1\]](#fn1)[\[2\]](#fn2)
