> ## Content Index > Fetch the complete content index at: https://www.whiteroseintelligence.com/llms.txt > Use this file to discover other available public pages before exploring further. # Forum of Young Global Leaders - URL: https://www.whiteroseintelligence.com/forum-of-young-global-leaders/ - Published: 2026-03-13T16:51:00.000Z - Updated: 2026-03-13T16:53:05.000Z - Author: Liam Sturgess - Tags: Profiles, #docs, #organization, Organization, #toc, Non-Profit, Switzerland The **Forum of Young Global Leaders (YGL)** is a nominally independent nonprofit organization launched by [Klaus Schwab](https://www.whiteroseintelligence.com/Klaus-Schwab) in 2004.[\[1\]](#fn1) It operates in association with the [World Economic Forum](https://www.whiteroseintelligence.com/World-Economic-Forum), and serves as a successor to Henry Kissinger's International Seminar program.[\[2\]](#fn2) It is described as the sister community to the [Global Shapers Community](https://www.whiteroseintelligence.com/Global-Shapers-Community).[\[3\]](#fn3) ## History In 1992, Klaus Schwab launched the [Global Leaders for Tomorrow](https://www.whiteroseintelligence.com/Global-Leaders-for-Tomorrow) program under the auspices of the World Economic Forum.[\[4\]](#fn4)[\[5\]](#fn5) This first iteration was shut down after the class of 2003\. According to economist Richard Werner, who was selected in 2003, the program was closed down and rebooted as a more controllable group because there started to be too many people asking difficult questions in the forum.[\[6\]](#fn6) ### Relaunch In 2004, the Global Leaders for Tomorrow was relaunched as the Forum of Young Global Leaders with $1 million won through the Dan David Prize.[\[4:1\]](#fn4)[\[7\]](#fn7) Klaus' daughter, Nicole Schwab, served as founding director of the new program.[\[8\]](#fn8) The inaugural summit of the Forum of Young Global Leaders took place from June 24-28, 2005 in Zermatt, Switzerland. Discussions at the summit "led \[participants\] to consider the probable state of the world in 2020" as part of the 2020 Initiative.[\[9\]](#fn9) Among the primary points of discussion in the 2020 Initiative was “Communicable diseases, outbreaks and pandemics,” with the SARS-CoV-1 outbreak specifically mentioned.[\[10\]](#fn10) ### COVID-19 During the COVID-19 pandemic, a significant number of world leaders were former members of the Young Global Leaders program.
