# European Commission

The **European Commission** is a supranational government organization serving as the executive branch of the European Union.

## History

Between 2018 and 2023, the European Commission prepared for the rollout of a "common vaccination card/passport for EU citizens."[\[1\]](#fn1)

### COVID-19

On June 5, 2023, the European Commission announced that the EU Digital COVID Certificate would be expanded to worldwide use in partnership with the [World Health Organization](https://www.whiteroseintelligence.com/World-Health-Organization) (WHO).[\[2\]](#fn2)
