He was a member of the Bohemian Club,[\[1\]](#fn1) and reportedly of the [Arlington Institute](https://www.whiteroseintelligence.com/Arlington-Institute).[\[2\]](#fn2) He also served on the board of the Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship and as a director for the Center for Public Leadership at Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government.[\[3\]](#fn3) He served as editor-at-large for *U.S. News & World Report,* a board member for the Yale Corporation, and a senior political analyst for CNN.[\[4\]](#fn4) ## History Gergen graduated from Yale University in 1963 and from Harvard Law School in 1967.[\[4:1\]](#fn4) ### Career Gergen served for three-and-a-half years in the [United States Navy](https://www.whiteroseintelligence.com/United-States-Navy). He served as director of communications for President Ronald Reagan and in various positions in the administrations of Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford.[\[4:2\]](#fn4) From 1984-1993, Gergen primarily worked a journalist. He worked with Mortimer Zuckerman to elevate *U.S. News & World Report* to new heights in terms of circulation and advertising.[\[4:3\]](#fn4) In 1993, Gergen agreed to serve as counsellor to President Bill Clinton on foreign policy and domestic affairs.[\[4:4\]](#fn4) He resigned his membership at the Bohemian Club upon joining the Clinton Administration.[\[1:1\]](#fn1) He then became special international adviser to the president and to Secretary of State Warren Christopher. He returned to the private sector in January 1995.[\[4:5\]](#fn4) Gergen participated in [Operation Dark Winter](https://www.whiteroseintelligence.com/Operation-Dark-Winter), a bioterrorism preparedness exercise which took place on June 22-23, 2001 at Andrews Air Force Base.
