The **British Columbia Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC)** is a Canadian provincial public health agency based in Vancouver, British Columbia. It operates under the [Provincial Health Services Authority](https://www.whiteroseintelligence.com/Provincial-Health-Services-Authority) (PHSA).

## History

The BCCDC co-hosted the Fourth Global Symposium on Health Systems Research in Vancouver from November 16-18, 2016.[\[1\]](#fn1)

### COVID-19

On April 30, 2020, the BCCDC published guidance alongside the [British Columbia Ministry of Health](https://www.whiteroseintelligence.com/British-Columbia-Ministry-of-Health) on interpreting the results of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests for detection of SARS-CoV-2.[\[2\]](#fn2) The BCCDC also distributed rapid antigen tests manufactured by [BD](https://www.whiteroseintelligence.com/Becton-Dickinson), [Abbott Laboratories](https://www.whiteroseintelligence.com/Abbott-Laboratories), Artron Laboratories and BTNX.[\[3\]](#fn3)

In July 2020, the BCCDC published a language guide to “to assist with COVID-19 messaging and content development by using positive, acknowledging, and inclusive, rather than (potentially) stigmatizing language that may provoke fear.” The guide made reference to BC's *Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act*, the Commitment on Cultural Safety and Humility in Health Services Delivery for First Nations and Indigenous people in BC, the PHSA Values, and the [World Health Organization](https://www.whiteroseintelligence.com/World-Health-Organization) (WHO) as the basis of the guidelines.[\[4\]](#fn4)

## Organization

The BCCDC raises funds through the Pacific Public Health Foundation, previously called the [BCCDC Foundation for Public Health](https://www.whiteroseintelligence.com/BCCDC-Foundation-for-Public-Health), a legally separate but functionally affiliated entity.[\[5\]](#fn5)
