In May 2025, the ministry was split into the Alberta Ministry of Primary and Preventative Health Services, Alberta Ministry of Hospital and Surgical Health Services, Alberta Ministry of Mental Health and Addiction and Alberta Ministry of Assisted Living and Social Services.[\[1\]](#fn1) ## History Alberta Health received a $320,055 grant from the [Public Health Agency of Canada](https://www.whiteroseintelligence.com/Public-Health-Agency-of-Canada)'s [Immunization Partnership Fund](https://www.whiteroseintelligence.com/Immunization-Partnership-Fund) for a pilot project using text messages to promote vaccination of infants.[\[2\]](#fn2) ### COVID-19 On May 11, 2021, Alberta Health announced it would stop offering "first doses" of the [AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine](https://www.whiteroseintelligence.com/AstraZeneca-COVID-19-vaccine) due to supply issues.[\[3\]](#fn3) In 2021, Alberta Health introduced the [AB Covid Records Verifier](https://www.whiteroseintelligence.com/AB-Covid-Records-Verifier) application to administer the province's vaccine passport system.
