# Africa-America Institute

The **Africa-America Institute (AAI)** is an American non-profit organization based in New York City.

## History

AAI was founded in 1953\. The [Central Intelligence Agency](https://www.whiteroseintelligence.com/Central-Intelligence-Agency) (CIA) was centrally involved in its affairs for nearly a decade, providing "the largest proportion of the more than $1 million which AAI spent in the 1950s."[\[1\]](#fn1) The CIA's funding of the Institute was revealed in 1967.[\[2\]](#fn2)
